HWNT Arlington recognizes Latina leaders through the Estrella de Tejas and Latina Poderosa Award. To celebrate their remarkable achievements, elevate their voices, and inspire future generations through their impactful contributions and leadership.

This award is presented by HWNT Arlington, and honors an exceptional mujer who has demonstrated outstanding excellence and unwavering dedication to the community
ASHLEY RODRIGUEZ, ​2023 LATINA PODEROSA
Ashley Rodriguez is a healthcare leader with over 15 years’ experience in community & public health. Her professional focus has been on promoting health equity, improving social determinants of health, innovative program applications for CHWs in and out of healthcare settings, as well as promoting and driving underserved and community health focused projects across Texas, and more recently across North America. She is an experientially certified Community Health Worker (CHW) and CHW Instructor in Texas, with extensive experience in developing dynamic continuing education to CHWs. Ashley helped to establish and currently leads the Arlington Latino Resource Coalition. She currently serves on the Executive Board of the Texas Public Health Association, serves as the membership chair, fellow, and was awarded the "TPHA Award for Outstanding Service" in 2020, 2021, & 2023. She also supports the CHW Center for Evaluation and Research as an advisor.  

She has served on the Texas DSHS CHW Advisory Committee (2020-2023), the APHA CHW Section as chair (2021-2023), the DFW-CHW association board of directors (2016-2020), and co-founded the Texas Association of Promotores and Community Health Workers (TAPCHW) - as well as served on their board of directors (2018-2022). Ashley mentors Latin youth in North Texas for Los Primos (since 2020), and supports public health and advocacy efforts in various communities. Ashley is also a founding member of the HWNT Arlington Chapter.
